The Yaffe Group published an article in The Lancet this week that investigated the association between plasma biomarkers (Aβ42, Aβ40, and p-tau217) and cognition at midlife. Levels of these biomarkers can be assessed in blood tests and used as diagnostic tools for AD. However, research in this area has primarily focused on older adults. The article's findings that higher levels of plasma biomarkers at midlife were associated with worse cognitive performance and accelerated cognitive decline indicate that such blood tests may be a means of early detection for potential AD in adults at midlife.
